Stanly "Tookie" Williams is scheduled to be executed
by the State of California on December 13.

Tookie was convicted of killing four people in 1979.

Tookie was one of the founders of the Crips gang in
Los Angeles; he grew up in poverty, without
opportunity, and took his leadership skills in a
negative direction. A direction that, as a teacher, I
can see many of the youth that I meet going with their
brilliance and creativity because our state and
country does not give them the support that they need
to come out of the violence and poverty that surrounds
them.

Since his activities with the Crips, Tookie has turned
into a "Peacemaker". He has been nominated five times
for the Nobel Peace Prize and was given the 2005
Presidential Call to Service Award for the powerful
work he has done in writing and creating a film for
inner-city youth about moving away from gang life and
violence. His work has lead to the transformation of
the lives of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands
of youth.

His death would be a travesty to youth throughout
California growing up in poverty and violence as it
would show them that there is no hope in turning their
lives around, in getting out of their current
situation. It would kill someone who means
life and hope to many of them.

In life we all make mistakes and go down wrong paths.
It is the strongest and most brave of us who are able
to recognize a wrong direction and make things right.
Let us make a decision to allow a man to live, to
continue a life inspiring others to live in a way of
peace and light, to help us believe in something
better.

LJ Interests meme results

bookstores:
i enjoy spending hours in bookstores, especially used bookstores. my favourite used bookstore would be jokinen on water street. my favourite thing to do there is to eat his free cookies and browse through his children's lit section. if i could, i would purchase all his hardcover children's storybooks.
chinese herbs:
chinese herbs and medicine are healthy for you and they taste good in soup. plus, it reminds me of my baba (him and his cantonese soup and his studies in chinese medicine). delicious.
farmers' markets:
clearly you do not know me if you don't know that i love fresh produce. aside from book-shopping and thrifting, i love smelling/touching/looking at fresh produce. i love comparing prices of things and the farmers' market is a great place for just that. plus, i feel healthy when i purchase produce from the market...and i like feeling good.
hot pink nail polish:
sometimes it looks really good on some. hot pink (short) nails CANNOT be chipped. chipped nail polish is horrible. who am i to say, though? i bite my nails and they're ugly.

ps. i should take this "interest" off of my list.
lace:
oh don't even get me started on my obsession with anything lace, ruffled, puffed-sleeved or sheer. i love different fabric. i love the texture. i love the look. so prettttttty.
mix cds:
i don't make mix cds as i don't have a burner. i receive them (although i have to say i think i've only received 3 mix cds in my entire life...SO SOMEONE MAKE ME SOME, dammit).
potato chips:
ughhhhhhhhh potato chips. i would have potato chips every single night if it weren't for junki-ness of them. potato chips are crunchy, salty and just oh so wonderful. my favourite chips have got to be regular.
secretaries:
i think i would make a good secretary as i am quite organized and know where, when and whats of everything. although i think i would make a good secretary, i don't think i would like to become one. this interest is more refering to the love i have for secretary-ish clothing (once again, this brings us back to my obsession with sheer, lace, ruffles and puffed sleeves)
slips:
i'm currently wearing three slips. i have loads of them and cannot get enough.
the postal service:
i remember hearing them for the first time back in grade 11 or 12. i fell in love instantly. i actually don't think i could ever be sick of thier album "give up."

greatest night ever.
i was engulfed by hott hott HOTTTT people (ie. my friends, julia (material girl), sarah lamble, pike, queen jasmine, erica, sara, sarena, debbie...)
i danced and danced and danced.
i cheered and laughed and clapped and yelled.
there is no way i can wait A YEAR for next year's drag show...geeze.

i must mention that my theatrical eyebrow-drawing skills are still just as good as when i did theatre all the frikin time. i am proud of myself.

it's 8:30am. i have an 8-page paper due at 1pm and i only have 1.5 pages done.
and obviously i'm here updating...

i had a wonderful day yesterday. i went up to taipei to visit my uncle and aunt (who enjoy spoiling me with everything from clothes to shoes to sushi to tea). my parents took me to the new bookstore that opened up in THE TALLEST BUILDING IN THE WORLD (which happens to be in taipei). it's not the TALLEST BUILDING IN THE WORLD that fascinates me because i could care less. it was the amazing bookstore, page one. they have the largest collection of english books in taiwan...and they bascially had all the books i was looking for/lusting after. i was serioulsy in heaven. it made me miss mackenzie because one of our favourite ways of spending an afternoon is to browse through books together in a bookstore. another amazing thing was that, after much calculating, purchasing english books in taiwan is cheaper than purchasing them in canada. so strange. it's cheaper from anywhere beween $1 to $5. so in the end, i purchased 3 books:

(1) the bell jar - sylvia plath (i have a feeling i will still like her poetry better. of course)
(2) the beauty myth - naomi wolf
(3) the fifth sacred thing - starhawk

i made my mother promise me that we would go back again before i left for canada.

i'm binge sewing again.
i made altered a shirt for ruth. of course, i used felt for my designs. i made a godzilla attacking a building design for her. it's so great. it's my greatest yet. i made a dinosaur one for myself. i'm in the process of making one of a lighting bolt shooting out of a cloud for my mother. i'm also currently working on a hot pink alligator one for myself. i am obssessed with the colour green. i've been for the past 4 months. it's really quite unhealthy. i can't stop sewing, either. that's unhealthy as well.

yes, i'm aware i'm in my underwear. my dinosaur shirt. everyone has a dino shirt now...i suppose it's trendy now. stupid stupid trends. fuck you, you fucking guy. HI JUSTYNE!

my hot bathing suit top. the pattern is so so...i only got it because of the style/shape of the top. i need halter support for my semi large breasts. they make my boobs look good and that's all that matters.

i chose my sister's outfit for her junior/senior banquet. it was 80s-themed but of course...not girl was gonna risk it and all went for black gowns. screw that. ruth was the bestest of every girl that night. she was hot. i am a good dresser.

so...following the crowd of missionary caucasian families at my ex-high school (*sniff*), i went out to the front of school and set up an area for my yard sale. the websters were there and holy cow...they got a lotta crrrrap. i was the first family there to set up at 7:30am and before i got all my stuff unloaded, a lady comes along (lemme tell you...these taiwanese ladies are yard sale experts...they come every single weekend). taiwanese ladies are so stubborn and way good at bargaining. so i'm selling fila running shoes, platforms, adidas flip flops all for 30NT (not even a dollar american) and they're all like "10NT lah! 10NT lah! aiyo!" 10 frikin NT. wtf. that's like 30 cents american. they LOVE nit-picking at the littlest stains. they want 5 nice coffee cups for 20NT (60 cents). oh yah...and this ONE lady...wanted this brand new kid's tommy hilfiger (i hate that f-ing designer) fleece pullover and this puffy brown jacket AND a wihte windbreaker for FORTY NT ($1.30). what the...and i thought i was stubborn when it came to bargaining (yes...i must say, i am quite good when it comes to "killing prices"). oh man...i've never met women like these taiwanese ladies. they come every weekend and just will not pay 10NT more. it's a freaking yard sale...it's all for fun and come on...it's not like i'm making ANY profit. oh yah...i didn't sell ANY magazines...yes. i am embarassed to say that i was once a teenage magazine reader. sadly, with the poor/broken english that the locals have...they have a loooong way to go till they understand even 1/4 of the magazines. what i really needed was teeny-bopper middle school girls. they want them ALL...doesn't matter whether it was from 1999. they want it sadly, they've all gone back to the states for the summer. good news=sold all my crappy purses and handbags, sold most of the shoes (at EXTREMELY LOW PRICES) and some clothes, lots of cups and jewlery. i shall be doing another yard sale sometime in july.

yes...the BAD side of chinese middle-aged/senior citizens. i am embarassed for my race.

i got majorly tanned (uh...not that i wasn't tan before. i already look like a taiwanese aborigine kid. that's cool though. they're cute and grow up to be beauties). i'm a tan-line monster.

lovely. just lovely. i got new glasses! oh yaaaa. they're dark blue thick-framed ones that sort of fan out as you get to the sides. but barely. pictures some other time, children.

mother has been really pissy lately. i can't take it anymore. i get violent urges whenever she gets pissed. i know she has a lot on her mind and a lot to do for the family...but holy cow, dont' have a cow over everything. i can't take it!!!

i am so glad i'm going up to taipei for a week. a week with my dear uncle and aunt who spoil the crap out of me. lovely. i shall get to see friends and one special special person <3<3<3<3<3 WAHOO! as long as i keep my eyes on the taipei trip (2 more days!)...everything turns better.

- reading "pride & prejudice"
- listening to moby and the postal service a whole bunch
- i miss a certain few peepers...*snif*
- i feel a "my big fat greek wedding" fest coming up
- i love sprouts of any kind. *sigh*
- i hate SARS.
- i think i really am going to love peterborough, ontario. the whole small city w/ small businesses, ma 'n pop restaurants, local live music, the vibrant community theater, little used book shops *sigh*
- my hands are dry. they are usually all sweaty...strange
